Sacred Allies Trees Entire 4 session series, 1/15, 2/19, 3/19, 4/23
Have you ever wanted to really understand the world of plants? Not in a trivia pursuit kind of way where you can rattle off factoids about them but really understand them in the way you might know your closest friends or your family. You know, build a relationship or allyship with them. This might be the series of classes for you!
What is a plant ally? A plant ally refers to a plant that we form a relationship with not unlike we do with other people or animals. Throughout all history, people lived in deep connection with all of the Planet but especially with the plant life because it directly impacted all of life. We relied on plants for food and medicine and all of the ancients well up until a few hundred years ago recognized this interconnectedness. I believe that we all have plants that are specific constitutional plant allies to us but I think we are all capable of forming and nurturing relationships with ALL plants. In fact I feel it’s something that we as a culture are lacking and it shows.
I’ve been professionally working with plant allies for 20 years but I have vivid memories of using them from my early childhood whether it was in the garden harvesting and putting them up for the season or playing with my friends in the woods. After I started studying the world of herbs, I realized that some of the ways I had used the plants in play were actually ways they are used in medicine and I started connecting the dots. Maybe this has happened to you or maybe you never had them in your childhood and as an adult you started to realize that there is so much more to our world than we were taught or have experienced yet.
Midway through this pandemic, I was talking with a client/friend about some of the herbs I had put in her formula. There was plenty of science behind my choices but it was the actions and the very nature of some of the plants that really spoke to me when formulating them and I spoke freely about those reasons. At the end of my little spiel, she commented that she loved hearing me talk intimately about plants because it tied it all together for her. That sparked a few thoughts and ideas in my head. Over the next few months there were other serendipitous conversations or realizations that solidified that I really needed to make an offering of teaching those who are interested more on this subject BUT it was going to take time and actual practice because we all know that relationships take experience and energy to grow.
SOOOOOO, This is UNLIKE any class, I’ve ever taught or taken for that matter. I am offering a series of workshops on specific plants and types of plants. The series with take place over all of 2022 but will be divided into thirds or units. Beginning in January, I will host a workshop on the 3rd Saturday of each month. (dates listed below as there is some adjustment for school holidays) The first 4 months or unit we will start with trees. We’ll go over the particular energy and lessons of trees as a whole but we will focus on a specific trees in each of the four sessions. In May we will start a new unit of plants, this time focusing on the flowers. And in September we will move over to the leaves of herbs.
The way I’ve designed this series is that the beginning session on each unit or type of plant will be open to everyone but you must have taken the previous lessons in the unit because they will build on information and experience so a la carte classes aren’t really an option except for January, May and September. You can choose to take the first of the units or a whole unit or the entire series if you wish.
We will be meeting at my house for this series. Some classes will be held inside and some outside in the gardens, depending on topic and weather. This is an interactive workshop, so expect journaling, medicine making and lots of discussion about what each of us discovers along the way. We will be creating not only a community with the plants but with each other as well.
Everyone attending will receive a journal and all supplies needed for the medicine of each class. So it’s a make it and take it or take it and make, depending on the plant.
